Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently held the 9th annual Open Day for Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) under the theme: "Horizons & Aspects of Sustainability." The event attracted a distinguished group of experts, specialists, and officials from outside the RTA, who participated virtually. This initiative aligns with the UAE’s direction to continue the designation of 2024 as the second Year of Sustainability and underscores RTA’s commitment to sustainability as a central pillar of its strategic objectives.

“Through its Strategic Plan 2024-2030, RTA is dedicated to advancing sustainability in all operations and fulfilling its vision of becoming the World Leader in Seamless and Sustainable Mobility,” said Nada Jasim, Director of Safety, Risk, Regulation and Planning at RTA’s Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector.

“RTA remains committed to hosting the HSE Open Day annually, inviting experts from universities and global institutions to discuss innovative techniques and practices that support sustainable development. The event also serves as a platform to showcase RTA’s ongoing efforts in this crucial area,” Jasim added.

During the 2024 HSE Open Day Webinar, RTA welcomed Sia Partners, represented by Specialist Antoine Georges Abdel Nour, who delivered a presentation on the "Transition to Net Zero Carbon: Sustainability of Assets."  He highlighted that “the future vision for the real estate industry is built around four key pillars: sustainability, liveability, resilience, and affordability. Carbon-free green buildings, powered by renewable energy, are essential in fostering liveability by contributing to healthy and sustainable environments. Resilience, in turn, ensures asset longevity and adaptability to future changes.”

Another key presentation was delivered by Fadi Al-Shihabi, Partner at KPMG (Saudi Arabia), who discussed "Exploring Sustainable Living: A Journey Toward Positive Change." He emphasised that “advancing sustainable transport is critical for building healthier and safer communities. This can be achieved by investing in transport solutions that not only address environmental challenges but also reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance the overall quality of life for individuals and communities.”

Danish Salim, Faculty, Emergency Specialist at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (Abu Dhabi), Academic Director & Head of the Emergency Department at PRS Hospital in Kerala, India, contributed with insights to "Stress Management and Sustainability." He noted that “sustainability in the transportation sector encompasses multiple dimensions of sustainable development, including environmental, social, governance, and economic aspects. It also considers the broader impacts of sustainable transportation on health and safety, quality of life, air quality, and emissions.

As the event concluded, Nada Jasim expressed her sincere appreciation to all external participants for their valuable contributions and interactive discussions, which significantly enriched the webinar and advanced the dialogue on sustainability in the transportation sector.
