Process

For inspecting a trailer and semi-trailer

  1. The customer logs in with his username and password, or UAE Pass.
  2. The customer selects his plate source.
  3. If the plate is issued in Dubai, the customer's identity is verified through his account. If the plate is issued in another emirate, he enters the required information.
  4. The customer selects the vehicle.
  5. The customer selects the inspection type.
  6. The customer books an appointment for the technical inspection and confirms it.
  7. The customer receives the booking details through email and SMS.
  8. The customer brings the trailer and semi-trailer to the service centre.
  9. The chassis number is engraved.
  10. The trailer and semi-trailer is inspected and its plate numbers are issued.
  11. The customer pays the required fees.
  12. The customer receives the technical inspection certificate.

For inspecting a classical vehicle

  1. The customer logs in with his username and password, or UAE Pass.
  2. The customer selects his plate source.
  3. If the plate is issued in Dubai, the customer's identity is verified through his account. If the plate is issued in another emirate, he enters the required information.
  4. The customer selects the vehicle.
  5. The customer selects the inspection type.
  6. The customer books an appointment for the technical inspection and confirms it.
  7. The customer receives the booking details through email and SMS.
  8. The customer brings the classical vehicle, which is over 30 years old for inspection.
  9. The customer pays the required fees.
  10. Once the classical vehicle passes the technical inspection test, the customer receives through email a certificate proving that the vehicle is valid before continuing with the final licensing procedure.

For inspecting other types of vehicles

  1. The customer logs in with his username and password, or UAE Pass.
  2. The customer selects his plate source.
  3. If the plate is issued in Dubai, the customer's identity is verified through his account. If the plate is issued in another emirate, he enters the required information.
  4. The customer selects the vehicle.
  5. The customer selects the inspection type.
  6. The customer books an appointment for the technical inspection and confirms it.
  7. The customer receives the booking details through email and SMS.
  8. The vehicle is inspected.
  9. The customer pays the required fees.
  10. The customer confirms his email to receive the certificate electronically.

For appealing the vehicle technical inspection results

  1. The customer applies for the service at the centre.
  2. The members of the technical committee inspect the vehicle.
  3. The committee takes the final decision.

Terms and conditions
  • Vehicles with special characteristics such as mobile kitchens or vehicles with modified bodies are transferred to the technical inspection committee at the Licensing Department.
  • The customer can book an appointment to appeal the result of the inspection test in front of a technical inspection committee.
  • The customer undertakes to bring the vehicle for inspection at the specified place and time, so that the technical inspection committee can decide on the appeal against the result of the vehicle technical inspection test.
  • The customer or legal representative must be present in person when appealing the results of the vehicle technical inspection test.
  • Vehicles linked to a commercial activity must undergo a specialised inspection from the concerned entity to be valid when undergoing the technical inspection.
  • The vehicle must comply with validity and general safety conditions.
  • The customer must verify that all set conditions are met before applying for the inspection of trailer and semi trailer at the service centre.
  • After inspecting the vehicle, the technical inspection committee's decision is considered final and it cannot be reconsidered until the customer submits a new request after fixing all issues.
  • The technical inspection certificate from outside the UAE for commercial vehicles is accepted only once for renewal purposes. The vehicle must be inspected for the following year at the service centres in the emirate of Dubai.

  • Question 1: What’s the procedure if the customer wants to perform substantial modifications to the vehicle (modification to the engine or body of the car)?

Answer 1:

    • Imported vehicles from local dealers are transferred to the local dealer authorised to execute specific modifications.
    • Pre-equipped vehicles imported from outside the UAE are transferred to the technical committee at the Technical Inspection section.
  • Question 2: What are the required steps to change the colour of a vehicle?

Answer 2:

    • For licensed vehicles: The customer submits the application in person or through Dubai Police smart application to obtain a permit from the General Department of Criminal Investigation.
    • For unlicensed vehicles with customs cards: The customer fills the application after completing the vehicle’s technical inspection in one of the inspection centres, then applies the approved modifications.

  • Question 4: What are the safety requirements for the trailer and semi-trailer?

Answer 4: Locally manufactured and imported trailers and semi-trailers must comply with the following stipulated technical conditions:

  • Maximum dimensions
    • The height from the ground till the highest point must not exceed 4.2 meters, the total length of the trailer and semi-trailer 18 meters, and its width 2.6 meters.
    • The total length of the vehicle carrier trailer must not exceed 23 meters, its width 2.6 meters and its height 4.2 meters.
  • Lighting and Reflectors Systems
    • Stop lights and signal lights must work properly in truck or the trailer.
    • Lighting apparatus must be linked and connected between the truck and motor-car and the trailer and semi-trailer.
    • Front and back side marker lights must be mounted on both sides of the trailers and semi-trailers if it was wider than 1.2 meters to highlight its total width.
    • Warning signals must be mounted on the trailers and semi-trailers to be able to see its light at night from 150 meters.
    • Rear, front and side reflectors must be mounted on the trailer and semi-trailer.
    • Back and side plates must be mounted with white plate lights to make it easier to see them.
  • Body systems and towing requirements
    • The body must be strong enough to take the weight of a full load.
    • The body must be built in a proper and secure way.
    • The body must be well equipped to prevent trailer separation accidents.
    • Trailers and semi-trailers must have lateral and rear impact guards to prevent small vehicles from under-running.
  • General safety requirements
    • Trailers and semi-trailers must have fenders or flaps on the rear wheels to prevent pebbles or mud or any other material from being thrown from the wheels up to other vehicles behind.
    • Trailers and semi-trailers must have a parking brake to keep them securely motionless when parked on flat roads or slopes.
    • Trailers and semi-trailers must have the essential tire repair tools.
    • Trailers and semi-trailers must be equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system and an emergency kit.
  • Question 5: What are the general safety standards of classical vehicles?

Answer 5:

    • The vehicle age must be 30 years or more.
    • The tyres must be suitable for driving.
    • The interior and exterior of the vehicle body must not be eroded by nature.
    • All internal parts of the vehicle must function properly.
    • Brake and lighting systems must be homogeneous and working properly.
    • The car engine must function properly and efficiently, without any sign of leakage of fuel or lubricant or coolant water from the bottom or sides of the engine.
  • Question 6: Is the technical test required for the registration of new motorcycles, for individuals and companies?

Answer 6: No, the technical test is not required for the registration of new motorcycles (which meet all the conditions). However, the technical test is required for registration renewal.
