RTA signs MoU with Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation in Knowledge Management
22/08/2015The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation (MBRF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the context of their efforts to cement cooperation in knowledge management and enrich the specialist Arabic knowledge content. Such efforts are in line with the directives of the prudent government to disseminate knowledge across the public sector.
The MoU was signed at RTA Head Office by HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, and HE Jamal bin Huwaireb, Managing Director of the MBRF.
“This MoU reflects RTA’s keenness on benefiting from the resources of the MBRF in diffusing knowledge through its “Book in Minutes” scheme; which have had made a quantum shift in leveraging innovative knowledge across the Departments of the Dubai Government. As the RTA is making every effort to foster the culture of innovation and enrich the Arabic knowledge content, it was keen to sign this MoU in a bid to epitomize its strategic vision of innovation concept through knowledge products of the Foundation.
“The MoU includes a host of initiatives and schemes in the field of spreading specialist knowledge highlighted by publishing the ‘Innovation in Minutes’ Digest in the context of RTA’s endeavours to enhance the innovation culture. Such a drive is launched in response to the initiative of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE designating 2015 as a Year of Innovation, and the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make innovation a routine government practice and a solid corporate culture.
“In this regard the RTA is cooperating with the MBRF in selecting the most valuable & knowledge-rich books in the field of innovation in order to summarize and present them in a stylish & attractive shape. Such cooperation will clear the way for the MBRF to support RTA’s library with key references and specialist knowledge resources about innovation. The RTA and the MBRF are already cooperating in upgrading the knowledge contents of the library through supplying hundreds of valuable books and Arabic-translated references as the RTA has so far got 713 translated books from the Foundation. We are pinning high hopes that such cooperation will have a significant contribution to realizing the vision of HH in making innovation a routine government practice and a solid corporate culture,” said Al Tayer.
“From inception, the RTA has been attaching special attention to innovation and is keen to make innovation part & parcel of its projects. It has assigned paramount attention to knowledge considering it an integral part of innovation. Knowledge is the gateway to innovation which in turn is the backbone of sustaining organizations. Three years ago the RTA launched the ‘Innovation & Knowledge Week’ as an annual event through which a number of events & activities are held such as the ‘Knowledge Cup’ and ‘Innovation Race’. It has also hosted prominent leaders to share their success stories with employees, held short specialist courses in its business domain, and has considerably improved its Innovation Management practices over the last few years rendering them a key part of the corporate business structure. In this regard it had established Researches, Improvement and Innovation Section in 2014, launched an annual award for scientific research, and developed an innovation strategy which is currently being revamped by an international consultant to realign it with the government directions,” elaborated Al Tayer.
HE Jamal bin Huwaireb, Managing Director of the MBRF, said: “The signing of this MoU with the RTA is part of the Foundation’s endeavours to reshape the community’s orientation on the bases of knowledge and innovation. The Foundation is seeking to empower future generations of the UAE to own knowledge and optimally apply it in addressing the challenges of development; which have become dependent on the concept of knowledge & creative thinking across the board.
“This MoU stems from RTA’s commitment to nurture the innovation concept which has become a contemporary feature of the UAE in general and Dubai Emirate in particular. Such attitude is consistent with the Foundation’s vision; which is built on the visionary thinking of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. We are therefore inclined to support this drive of publishing Innovation in Minutes Digest in line with the Foundations model of Book in Minutes,” continued Bin Huwaireb. He concluded by expressing his delight with the signing of this MoU, which he says, echoes the endeavours of the two parties to materialize the directives of the Dubai Government in owning knowledge as a means of building better tomorrow, adding that such approach hinges on reviewing rich intellectual resources across the globe in order to come up with sustainable solutions for our renewable challenges of today.
