Hussain Mohammed Al Banna

Having over 20 years of projects management experience, Al Banna is a specialist in developing urban and strategic plans, including regulations, legislations, and projects designed to minimise traffic congestion and accidents. 

Al Banna holds a Master's Degree in Project Management from the British University in Dubai and graduated with distinction - first class honours from the Higher Colleges of Technology with a Bachelor Degree of Applied Science (BAS) in Civil Engineering Technology. He has been recognised with numerous certificates for engaging in leadership programmes focused on management, quality, and road safety.

In 2006, Al Banna joined RTA as the Manager of the Traffic Services Section and was subsequently appointed Director of the Right-Of-Way until 2008. He then served as Executive Director of Traffic at the Traffic and Roads Agency until 2022.


Al Banna was a member of 29 executive committees at the regional and international level, including Expo 2020 Management and Crowd Management Plan, Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport (DAST), and the Executive Committee for Strategic Planning and Corporate Transformation.
 

Key Responsibilities and Achievements:

 

  • As part of his responsibilities, Al Banna conducts and evaluates traffic studies to specify the roads, bridges, tunnels, tram routes and other facilities required. He also conducts studies on traffic effects on roads and manages the black points system to reduce traffic accidents.
  • A notable contribution of Al Banna was the successful implementation of Vision Zero to reduce traffic fatalities in Dubai and the reduction of the travel time index in Dubai from 1.28 in 2014 to 1.19 in 2020. He spearheaded the soft mobility project, which contributed to a substantial increase in cycling trips in Dubai.
  •  He also participated in several projects that contributed to numerous local and international achievements, such as Dubai's top ranking in the Road Quality Index during the years 2013-2017 and RTA's Guinness World Record in 2018 for compiling the biggest awareness message and in 2021 related to traffic safety.

Al Banna was bestowed a number of individual awards and contributed in other corporate awards within working teams, including:

  • International Road Federation Awards – Managing Black Points System and Management of Traffic Accidents
