ITS World Congress Explores Safety Potential of Connected Automated Vehicle Technologies

The 30th ITS World Congress featured an international forum titled: “safety potential of Connected Automated Vehicle (CAV) technologies for passenger and freight operations.” The forum brought together global leaders to address the critical issue of safety on transportation networks, particularly how CAV technologies can be a transformative solution for improving road safety.


The  speakers shared real-world deployment use cases of CAV technologies. Discussions centered around how to align stakeholders to tackle legislative, privacy, and equity challenges, as well as the crucial role of information in supporting automation in transportation. These insights highlighted the collective effort needed to unlock the full safety benefits of CAV technologies.


The panel was moderated by Mr. John Barton, Senior Vice President of HNTB Corporation, USA. The distinguished panel included Mr. Roger Millar, Secretary of Transportation for the Washington State Department of Transportation, USA, Mr. Brock Aun, Vice President of Communications & Public Policy at Haas Alert, USA, and Ms. Nicole Majeski, Cabinet Secretary of the Delaware Department of Transportation, USA, Dan Likasik, Vice President, Parson, USA and Ms Tilly Chang, Executive Director San Francisco County Transportation Authority, USA.


This forum underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing CAV technologies and their potential to revolutionize safety in passenger and freight transportation, offering a glimpse into a future where technology significantly reduces accidents and saves lives on the road.
