Answer 1: Knowing that the file is opened in Dubai, the licence is issued in Dubai after the customer passes the Road test.
- Question 2: What is the required number of driving lessons if the customer wants to change the driving licence from automatic to manual?
Answer 2: There are no driving lessons required if the customer wants to change the driving licence from automatic to manual, but he should pass the Road Test.
- Question 3: What is in the Dubai Drivers' handbook?
Answer 3: The handbook includes road rules information, including safe driving and crash prevention tips, and information on traffic offenses and black points. It also includes information about road signs and road markings that are used in Dubai and the UAE. This handbook is the only one related to road rules that is approved by the Dubai Government.
- Question 4: When is the handbook's information updated?
Answer 4: A review of the handbook is conducted every 6 months, and an updated version is issued if necessary. When significant changes occur, a leaflet with the updated information may be provided with the handbook.

Answer 7: Yes, all customers who exchange their overseas licence to a Dubai licence must purchase a copy of the light vehicle handbook. The handbook cost is automatically calculated and added to the payment receipt.
- Question 8: What if the customer already has a handbook?
Answer 8: The customer must purchase a copy of the handbook to make sure that everyone has his own updated copy.
- Question 9: What if the customer does not want to purchase a handbook as part of the driving licence exchange process?
Answer 9: In this case, the customer will not be allowed to exchange the licence.
- Question 10: Can a housemaid apply for a driving licence?
Answer 10: Yes, a housemaid can apply for a driving licence if she provides all the required documents.
- Question 11: Is it possible for the customer to get the driving licence 1 year after passing the Road test?
Answer 11: If the customer did not get the driving licence within a period of 1 year from passing the test, he must take and pass another Road test.

Answer 15: The driving institute contacts the customer as soon as he successfully submits the application.
Question 16: Can the customer apply for changing the driving learning permit if it was expired?
Answer 16: No, the driving learning permit must be valid.
- Question 17: Can the customer change the permit category from manual light vehicle to heavy vehicle?
Answer 17: The customer can change the permit category only from manual to automatic or the opposite.
- Question 18: Are there any fees to change the branch of the driving institute?
Answer 18: There are no fees to transfer the driving learning permit to a different branch of the same driving institute. However, there are fees that vary according to driving institute when transferring the driving learning permit to another driving institute, in which case the customer also needs to submit a clearance certificate to transfer the permit to the other institute.
- Question 19: How long does it take to complete the transfer of the file to another institute or emirate?
Answer 19: The customer must ensure that the training and test data in RTA systems are updated. The file will be transferred to another institute or emirate within 24 hours if all the conditions for issuing the clearance are met. This may extend to 48 hours if the institute has financial claims against the trainee.
To renew a driving licence
- Question 1: If the customer is on a visit visa, can he renew his expired driving licence?
Answer 1: No, the customer must have a valid Emirates ID.
- Question 2: If the driving licence is issued in Dubai and the visa is from another emirate, can the customer renew the driving licence online?
Answer 2: Yes, the customer can renew the licence online after making sure that all the details of the traffic file are updated on the traffic system according to the new residence visa.
- Question 3: If the customer submits the photo to the eye test centre and does the renewal online, which photo will appear on the new driving licence?
Answer 3: As per the policy, only the Emirates ID photo is used. However, if the Emirates ID photo was not extracted for a certain reason, it is substituted with a photo from the system of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, or from the camera, or the scanner.

Answer 4: If the customer applies for the licence online with missing information or documents, RTA team sends him an SMS to provide the details.

Answer 1: Yes, he will receive the new driving licence updated with the new information added to the traffic file without the need to apply for amending the driver licence data.
- Question 2: Can a customer apply for a driving licence replacement without a valid Emirates ID?
Answer 2: No, to apply for replacing a lost or damaged driving licence, the customer's traffic file must be updated using a valid Emirates ID.
To amend driving licence data
- Question 1: What should the Marsoom holder customer do to change his licence photo?
Answer 1: The customer can attach a photo when submitting the request, provided that it is approved by the relevant team after verification of the identity of the owner of the photo.
- Question 2: Can Marsoom holders and diplomats apply for the service via electronic channels?
Answer 2: Yes they can.
- Question 3: What is the procedure if the customer becomes a Person of Determination after obtaining the driving licence? Can he continue to use the same licence?
Answer 3: The customer must visit the Customer Happiness Centre and present the People of Determination card to activate the People of Determination feature in the traffic system.
- Question 4: If the customer has the glasses sign on his Dubai driving licence but starts using contact lenses instead of glasses, should he add the contact lenses sign to the driving licence?
Answer 4: According to the procedures, there is no difference between glasses and contact lenses, and the customer can use them both while driving.
