    20 Air-Conditioned Rest Areas for Delivery Riders

    The construction of rest areas aligns with the significant growth in the delivery sector in recent years, addressing the public's increasing demand for goods. As of the end of last June 2024, the number of companies providing delivery services by motorcycles in Dubai reached 2,535 with a total of 40,088 delivery bikes in operation. The locations for the rest areas were selected through an analysis of operational data and by studying areas with the highest demand for delivery services, in coordination with delivery companies. As a result, rest areas have been constructed in the following areas: Hessa Street, Al Barsha Heights, Al Barsha, Al Karama, Riggat Al Buteen, Umm Suqeim (Jumeirah 3), Jumeirah (Al Wasl Road), The Greens, Dubai World Trade Centre, Al Rashdiya, Al Satwa, Nad Al Hamar, Al Nahda, Oud Metha, Arabian Ranches, International City, Business Bay, Dubai Marina, Al Jaddaf, Mirdif, Last Exit Al Khawaneej, Dubai Motor City, and Al Garhoud.

    Construction of 10 Truck Rest Stops

    Construction of 10 Truck Rest Stops in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). The trucks rest Stops strategically distributed across six key locations, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road, Dubai - Hatta Road, Dubai - Al Ain Road, Jebel Ali - Lehbab Road, and Al Awir Road, all of which attract a high volume of daily truck traffic. Each rest area spans 5,000 to 10,000 square metres, with the capacity to accommodate 30 to 45 trucks and heavy vehicles. The facilities include service amenities, prayer rooms, diesel refueling stations, and driver rest rooms.

    Completion of internal road works in different areas

    The internal roads project in Al Qusais Industrial areas 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 has enhanced connectivity with four main streets: Amman Street, Beirut Street, Aleppo Street, and Damascus Street. It has also improved access and exit points to over 320 workshops, 25 residential buildings, shops, and educational facilities, benefiting an estimated 60,000 residents in the area. RTA has recently completed internal road and streetlighting projects in four residential areas: Margham, Lahbab, Al Lisaili, and Hatta, covering 35 km.     Development of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Corridor

    The project was carried out in two phases. The first phase involved widening Ras Al Khor Road from three to four lanes in each direction and constructing a two-lane service road on both sides. The aim was to increase traffic safety and flow while eliminating the existing overlapping traffic spots. It boosted the road’s capacity to 10,000 vehicles per hour and cut the travel time from 20 minutes to about 7 minutes.

    Saih Al-Dahal Road Improvement Project

    The Saih Al-Dahal Road Improvement Project, which links Saih Al-Salam Road with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. The the old single-lane road has been removed and replaced it with a dual carriageway extending 11 km comprising two lanes in each direction, along with a median and three roundabouts. The new road will link with the entry points of Al Qudra Lakes which increases the road capacity from an existing 1800 vehicles to 4000 vehicles in each direction.

    The Infinity Bridge which is 295 meters long, 56.5 meters wide with the ability to accommodate 24,000 vehicles in both directions. It rises 15.5 meters high above the creek levels, allowing complete freedom of movement to large boats and yachts around the clock.

It also doubles up the capacity of the junction from 8,000 to 16,000 vehicles per hour, and halves the waiting time at the intersection of Al Khawaneej-Al Amardi Roads, which has been upgraded from a roundabout to a surface junction, from 120 seconds to 60 second.

    Pedestrians and Cyclists Bridge Over Ras Al Khor Road

    The new bridge has a steel and concrete structure that required the transportation of 370 tons of structural steel to the site in four different pieces. A reinforced concrete layer was then placed on the upper deck of the bridge. The bridge spans 475 metres in length, which includes a steel structure part that extends 110 metres. The bridge is built on three concrete pillars and connects with ascending and descending slopes on both sides extending about 180 metres. The bridge extends five metres in width: three metres for cyclists and two meters for pedestrians. It is fitted with slip-resisting flooring and subdued decorative lighting. It has metal railings on both sides for the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.

    Improvements along Sheikh Zayed Road

    The 1st improvement was the widening of Exit 39 (near Mall of Emirates) from one lane to two lanes, which doubled the intake of the road from 1800 vehicles to 3600 vehicles per hour. As such, it shorted the journey time from Sheikh Zayed Road to Umm Suqeim from 12 minutes to 1.45 minute and reduced the length of the queue from 1000 m to 50 m only, the 2nd involved improving Umm Amara Street in the direction of Safa Park Interchange to ease the bottleneck at the R/A and increase the flow of traffic in the direction of Abu Dhabi.

    A pedestrian bridge in the Dubai Marina district

    The design of the bridge frontage is inspired by the urban nature of the area with a shape and colour that fit well with the pattern of surrounding buildings. The curved shape of the bridge emulates the coastal areas in great harmony with the neighbourhood. The bridge enables pedestrians to move freely between the four sides of the junction, thus avoiding any stop at light signals.

    Deira Palm Entrance Bridge

    The newly constructed bridges and roads provide access points to and from Deira Islands at the intersection of Al Khaleej-Abu Baker Al Siddique Streets. The bridges span 2,571 metres in length and have a total capacity of 20,700 vehicles per hour, the intersection consists of several bridges starting with a 2-lane bridge that extends 472 metres and provides free traffic for motorists on Al Khaleej St. heading northwards to Deira Islands at a capacity of 3000 vehicles per hour. The second is a three-lane bridge that extends 503 metres and provides free traffic from Deira Islands in the direction of Al Shindagha Tunnel at a capacity of 4,500 vehicles per hour.

    The bridge leading to Dubai Creek Harbour

    The project, which includes the construction of a new bridge of 3 lanes and 740-metre length, links the traffic inbound from Dubai-Al Ain Road and Al Khail Road heading Eastwards to Dubai Creek – Dubai Creek Harbour. The bridge has a capacity of 7500 vehicles per hour in the entry direction, and 3000 vehicles per hour in the exit direction. The project includes the construction of a new street of 4 lanes in each direction extending 1.5 km in addition to entry/exit points from and to the newly constructed buildings, to ease the movement of traffic inbound from Nadd Al Hamar Street-Ras Al Khor Road junction.

    Bridges leading to Dubai Hills Mall

    The completion of roads and bridges leading to Dubai Hills Mall along with the associated infrastructure works and improvements of Umm Suqeim Street provide direct entry and exit points for the area from and to Al Khail Road and Umm Suqeim Street. This ensures a seamless traffic flow to and from the Dubai Hills Mall. The project provides three entry points to those coming from Deira, Umm Suqeim and Jebel Ali as well as direct exit points to Al Khail Road and Umm Suqeim Street. This increases the capacity of Umm Suqeim Street and junctions; which streamlines the traffic flow in both directions of the street. Such improvements slash the transit time on Umm Suqeim Street in the sector between Mohammed bin Zayed and Al Khail Roads from 18 to 7 minutes.

    Two pedestrian bridges on Khalid Bin Al Waleed and Al Marabea streets

    The first bridge crosses over Khalid bin Al Waleed Street at Bur Dubai nearby Ascot Hotel. It links the two sides of a very busy street buzzing with year-round trading activities. The bridge is fitted with lifts to ease the movement of people between the two sides of the street. The second bridge is built on Al Marabea' Street at Al Quoz. It mainly serves residents of the neighbourhood, and labours community. The bridge is fitted with ramps to streamline the movement of users. The construction of this bridge is expected to fend off the casual crossing of the street, which translates into fewer runover accidents.
